The techniques of Aikido originate from the throws, joint locks, sword and staff techniques of the samurai warrior. Modern Aikido uses the strength, momentum and aggression of the attacker rather than relying on being stronger, fitter or faster oneself. Aikido training is in a non-competitive environment, where you train to maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of your own body and movement, developing a deep understanding of how the body works and how this power can be used most successfully.
